I have a very different view on sports and their respective Hall of Fame’s. In my opinion, if you can tell the story of a specific sport without mentioning an individual……. They aren’t Hall of Fame worthy. You simply can’t tell the story of Women’s basketball without mentioning the dominance of Diana Turasi. She is one of the greatest winners regardless of gender or sport of all time.
I remember catching some of her games as a kid and two things that always stood out to me was her boldness/grit in how she approached the game and her tough shot making. Her shot making ability combined with an insanely quick release made her unstoppable. She could shoot 3’s, both off the dribble and covered. She could shoot going left, right, fading left, fading right, she had a floater. She could create space to get her shot off, and even as she aged and had to rely on 3 point shot making, she wasn’t going to be forced to take a shot she didn’t think she could make.
As a sports fan you can’t help but appreciate her greatness and legacy. She was one of the first “Big” Point Guards in the WNBA and has gone on to be its all-time leader in points, field goals made, and 3 point field goals made. Her other career achievements include:
11x All star
14x All WNBA
1x WNBA Rookie of the Year
1x WNBA MVP
5x Scoring Champion
6x WNBA Peak Performer
3x WNBA Champ
6x Olympic Gold Medalist,
3x NCAA Champion
15th, 20th, 25th WNBA Anniversary Team Member
6x Euroleague Champion
7x Russian National League Champion
3x Russian Cup and League Player of the Year.
4x USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year
And the list goes on and on. She is THE GOAT of women’s basketball.
